Forgotten ‘Living in Bondage’ graphic designer compensated after two years

A Nigerian graphic designer Louisa Ejenavbo announced that she has received appropriate compensation two years after spearheading the graphics design project of the movie ‘Living in Bondage – Breaking Free’ produced by Charles Okpaleke and directed by famous Nollywood actor Ramsey Nouah.

Louisa revealed that she was contacted in 2018 by media director Jim Franklin to create graphical illustrations for the movie and was neglectful of legalizing a contract agreement and ensuring proper documentation before commencing the job as she was too excited to be part of such huge project.

“In 2018, I was contacted to work as the graphic designer for the ‘Living in Bondage’ movie. I was very excited as I had never been on a big project like that before hence I knew nothing and did nothing related to paperwork.” @louisajlo wrote on Twitter.

At the heel of brainstorming and having sleepless night to develop the best graphic concepts required for the movie, her engagement was terminated without payment or settlement of any form following the removal of media head Jim Franklin who attributed his sack to poor performance and displeasure in the quality of job.

“Things took a wrong turn when I was rushing from work so I could go complete my designs then I receive a call from the media director saying he was fired. I was like what?! What happened? He explained to me that the crew said they weren’t pleased with the quality of work.”

After two years down the lane. Louisa surprisingly watched her designs displayed in the same movie she was dismissed from it production. Less worried for not being paid she was utterly rooted for not being credited.

“Almost 2 years after Living in Bondage (Breaking Free is out and guess what, they used my designs in the movie. My blood and sweat, my sleepless nights and broken backs after claiming they were not good enough. Worse of, I wasn’t credited, I wasn’t paid. I wasn’t even compensated”

She then took to social media to share her plight after attempts to reach Ramsey Nouah were all to no avail.  Reacting to her thread on Twitter, Africa Movie Academy Award winner Kate Henshaw Nuttall assured Louisa of getting her rightful credit and dividend in due time.

“Good morning Louisa. Trust you are well. I was tagged on your thread this morning. I can say I know @Ramseynouah_ to a certain extent. He is not that type of person. Ur connect was passing off your job as his own. I have spoken to Ramsey and I hear someone has reached out to you.” @HenshawKate wrote on Twitter.

Recent notification from Louisa has shown that she has been contacted and the due obligations have been met.

“For those who do not know that I made an update on a new tweet. I have been contacted and compensated. I really wanna thank everyone of you for your Retweets and support. Thanks a lot.”

“Yes ma (Kate Henshaw), I have been contacted. Thank you for responding to this issue.”
