EFCC partners FBI to track victims involved in Hushpuppi $35m alleged fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have announced a joint operation with Federal Bureau of Investigation to identify primary targets believed to have been scammed by Ramoni Igbalode otherwise known Ray as Hushpuppi.

The Nigerian Instagram celebrity was apprehended in United Arab Emirates on Wednesday June 10 for multiple incident count of serious fraud and money laundering.

He had since been arraigned in a public prosecution office for questioning and thorough investigation. According to UAE’s online newspaper, The National, Hushpuppi is believed to have other associates who are also connected to his fraudulent acts.

“They would send out letters from email addresses almost identical to those of legitimate companies targeting customers of these companies with the purpose of diverting payments to themselves.” A prosecutor was quoted by The National.

The EFCC also revealed that Hushpuppi has been a primary suspect on its radar after several hacking, massive fraud and crimes committed by many Nigerian based fraudsters were traced to him.

“Nigerian most-wanted hacker, Ramoni Igbalode, alias Ray Hushpuppi, recently arrested by the International Police and the FBI, has considerable cases of cyber crimes being investigated by the EFCC,” Said Dele Oyewale, The EFCC spokesman

“The commission is familiar with grisly details of his money laundering transactions, involving many high-profile cybercriminals facing trial in Nigeria.

Oyewale then disclose that the crime control agency is working closely with the FBI to trace potential victims who have been seriously affected.

“The commission is engaging with the FBI in tracing victims of his fraudulent transactions and other fraudsters having direct involvement with him. Local cyber criminals with money laundering networks with him are also being investigated.”
