Judge sets €6.7m payment for Neymar after losing dispute to Barcelona

Paris Saint German super star Neymar da Silva Junior was handed a harsh defeat in a signing-on bonus lawsuit with former club Barcelona.

Neymar left the Catalan giants for PSG in 2017 in a world record signing fee, thereafter filed a court case of unpaid €43m as bonus meant to be paid in his contract renewal signed in 2016.

Barcelona immediately issued an outright denial of the claim stating that such clause seized to be valid when the Brazilian made his exit from the club.

With the two parties in contest, it is practically impossible that a court hearing won’t be adopted to settle the dispute.

A judge in the Social Court No.15 of Barcelona has now granted a major ruling in favor of current La Liga holders in the lawsuit, vindicating Barcelona from the charges and mandated Neymar to pay €6.7m to the club.

An excited Josep Vives, Barcelona spokesman said that the outcome of the hearing is satisfactory while indicating that Neymar is opened to appealing the Judge’s decision.

“Barcelona want to show our satisfaction with the result of [Neymar] sentence by Social Court No.15 of Barcelona. In relation to the demand filed by the club and by the player Neymar Jr. for the amount due for the signing bonus which was signed at the time of the players’ last contractual renewal with the club.” Vives told Barca TV

“In this judicial resolution, the demands made by the player, which we remember, demanded the payment of an amount of 43 million Euros, was entirely rejected. And this decision estimate in large parts, the request of the club.

“Therefore, the player will have to pay an amount of 6.7 million Euros. Taking into consideration that this is a first instance resolution, appealable in the second instance, in case extreme occurs, the club will continue to defend itself firmly, and defend it legitimate interests.” Vives concluded.

Neymar is yet to make any comment so far but it is believed that the Brazilian will respond to the ruling in due time.
