Everton hold Liverpool to a goalless draw in Merseyside derby

Despite trailing league leaders, Liverpool by 45 points before the heated derby, Everton succeeded in sealing a daring 0-0 draw against the Premier League-chasing side on Sunday.

The game started with a clumsy weather condition at Goodison Park but the visitor immediately took charge and had the better share of the total ball possession.

Everton initially coped well with the pressure  but became unsettled after the first quarter as Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered several teasing cross into their box and it took two big interventions from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to stop The Reds from taking a lead before half time.

Liverpool could have also taken a lead in the second half when Virgil Van Dijk sends a header towards goal, but the Pickford again came to the rescue.

The draw means Liverpool now have 23 points margin as league leaders ahead of Manchester City who have a game in hand.

Liverpool will have to wait till they win their next two games before they could be crowned champions of England this season.

Everton remain in 12th position on 38 points, eight points clear of Europa league spot.
