Rape allegation: I’m innocent until proven guilty- D’Banj

Not many people keep mute about sexual assault allegations. Oladapo Oyebanjo popularly known as D’Banj is not an exemption. In a video released by the singer on social media, he denied allegation of rape leveled against him by a woman named Seyitan Babatayo.

According to a petition leveled against the best-selling African Artist at the 2014 World Music Awards,  Babatayo alleged he raped her in 2018 at Glee Hotel in Lagos.

D’Banj has since sought to prove his innocence by publicly denying the accusations. Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police has however ordered that adequate investigation should be conducted on the rape allegation against the multiple award winning singer. 

Subsequent to the numerous blow he suffered from mainstream media, D’Banj in a new video has cautioned the public to be discreet in delivering their judgement as he is not guilty of the allegation until proven guilty.

In the video, he is seen discoing his own song titled ‘olorunmaje’ released in 2008 whose lyric opposes bad wishes while snapping his fingers across his body repetitively to reject all kind of ill luck and wrote alongside the film.

“Innocent until proven guilty. Stop social media trial. Say no to rape and human rights violation.”

An estimable number of 15,000 people have signed an online petition beckoning on the United Nations to remove D’Banj as United Nations Youth Ambassador for Peace among many brand who are also have joint venture with the singer.
