David Luiz, Arsenal agree new contract

With what seemingly looked like a certain exit for the Brazilian owing to his recent shortcomings. Surprisingly, Arsenal have looked the opposite direction by improving David Luiz’s contract with another 12 months.

Arsenal on Wednesday announced a one-year contract extension for David Luiz which will run until June 2021.

The ace center-back arrived the club last summer on transfer window deadline for a reported £8 million transfer fee on a year contract.

With his contract expected to expire by end of June without any solid conclusion on possible renewal, together with his multiple flaw in the team and aging factor, there were strong indications that he could leave this summer but the defender will now stay at the Emirate for another year.

Luiz will continue to feature for the club as Arsenal hope to secure next season Europa league spot.

Arsenal technical director, Eduardo Gaspar who is full of praise for the defender said he is delighted that Luiz agreed to continue with the club.

“David is a really important player for us. He has played most of our matches this season and has been important for the team. His passing, his communication with the team on and off the pitch. He helps everyone.” Eduardo told Arsenal website.

According to the club, two other players Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares have agreed contracts to stay on long-term despite their injury woes while Real Madrid midfielder midfielder, Dani Ceballos also extended his loan deal until the end of 2019/20 season.
