Liverpool crowned champions of Premier League, 30 years of wait ends

Liverpool have speedily been confirmed winners of 2019/20 Premier League season following Manchester City 2-1 loss to Chelsea on Thursday.

City’s loss gave the Reds an unattainable 23-point advantage as league leaders with just seven more rounds to go.

Liverpool’s 30-year wait for a top-flight title is over as they have now claimed their first Premier League title since 1990 and a record 19 times as champions of England.

In the wake of first Premier League defeat of the season when Watford stunned Liverpool to a 3-0 defeat to halt their 44-game unbeaten league run.

They were also knocked out of the Champions League with a dramatic extra-time defeat by Atletico Madrid in the round of 16 a week later before football activities was suspended due to coronavirus pandemic.

With the league resuming in June, Liverpool were held to a goalless draw in a Merseyside derby against Everton and the thoughts of them fading away evoked as they had experienced such mishap in 2014 when they lost all comfortable points they garnered as league leaders just few games to being crowned champions.

Liverpool however responded in an impressive fashion on Wednesday, defeating Crystal Palace 4-0 to keep hopes alive. Thankfully, Manchester City gifted the glorious gateway for Liverpool to be crowned champions without further trauma after losing to Chelsea on Thursday.

This breakthrough is by far the most historical Premier League season of all time as the Reds are deemed to have set and broken many records, most notably;

Biggest lead at the top and biggest winning margin, 23 points. Most home wins and away wins. Earliest title win, after claiming the title with seven matches to spare Liverpool beat the mark set of becoming champions with five matches remaining, set by Man Utd in 2000/01, and Man City in 2017/18.

Since declared champions, numerous fans have piled up on the streets of Liverpool celebrating without taking cautions to social distancing and observing safety protocol amid COVID-19 crises.

An emotional Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool Manager) who was astonished by the reaction urged the fans to keep safe before before walking off the camera crying.

“I am completely overwhelmed, I never thought it would feel like this, I had no idea.” Klopp told SkySport.

“I hope you stay at home, go out the front of your house if you want, but do no more and celebrate it. We do it together and its a joy to do it for you.” He concluded.
