Rape Allegation: Police IG orders interrogation of Policemen tied to D’Banj accuser’s arrest

On the account of petition laid against the arrest of Seyitan Babatayo, Oladapo Oyebanjo aka D’Banj’s alleged rape victim, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has authorized the probe of police team at Ikeja IGP IRT involved in the arrest.

The petition sponsor, Ojoge Omileye and Partners, legal representatives of Babatayo claimed policemen from Ikeja IGP IRT arrested her without a warrant. They consequently seized her phones together with other personal belonging and deprived her of basic right to access a Lawyer while being detained for over 24 hours.

According to a letter which the IGP forwarded to his Criminal Investigation Department, the Police Chief directed that the petition from Babatayo’s lawyer be addressed accordingly.

The letter titled, ‘Re: Petition Against Inspector Abraham, Supol Ugowe and the Entire Police Officers Team at Ikeja, Lagos Division of the Inspector General of Police’ reads;

‘I forward forthwith copy of a letter dated June 18, 2020 with its attachment received from Ojoge, Omileye and Partners on the above subject.

“I am to respectfully convey the directive of the Inspector-General of Police that you deal.”

In the petition, Babtayo’s lawyer, Tommy Ojoge-Daniel, alleged that his client was forced to delete all D’Banj related post on social media, she was also mandated to document a statement prompting her to retract all claims against the singer and announce that her testimony against D’Banj were false before his special intervention stopped the commitment.

He also disclose that his move to request his client bail with the provision of making her available for questioning when needed was disapproved as D’Banj’s manager, Damien Okoroafor consistently pose pressure on the officers at Ikeja IGP IRT who then disregarded Babatayo’s bail application on the grounds that Mr Okoroafo has commenced the process of obtaining a warrant from a magistrate to detain Babatayo for 14 days.

Police chief, IG Adamu recently ordered investigation into D’Banj rape accusation as alleged by Babatayo to have occurred at in 2018 at Glee Hotel, Lagos. Both parties have since been on a duel to prove their stance while the case is actively in contention.
