La Liga chief may be sued over Manchester City ruling remarks

La Liga president Javier Tebas has been alerted to expectantly await a possible legal suit over his negative remarks on Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling to overturn Manchester City’s ban from Uefa Champions League.

The authorities at City have announced that they are currently reviewing Tebas comments on legal grounds and will take appropriate action when due.

CAS dismissed Manchester City’s two years ban on July 13 and also reduced their initial €30 million fine to €10 million after vindicating the club of not breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulation.

Lots of murmuring and quite protest has since surface even among key persons in the sport industry but Tebas has not only shown his boldness in speaking up against the court’s decision but has continually dragged the Sky Blues in the mud several times in the past few day.

The 57-year told Sun that “City haven’t signed players with their own resources, like Manchester United do, they sign players with petrodollars, with money obtained through oil by the United Arab Emirates. The state-owned clubs in Europe do what they want, with fictitious sponsors and naming rights in the case of Man City.”

Tebas accused City of concealing documents that are incriminating as reported by ESPN. He also said the club is guilty of manipulating Financial Fair Play regulations while further adjudging CAS as a bias and non-functional body.

“CAS is not fit to hand down rulings in the football industry. We all know what City do! Everyone in football knows what they do,” he said.

“CAS is dead. Its rulings have been doubtful for a long time. There is no transparency and a lot of the time, looking at the judges named, you know where their ruling is headed.

“Switzerland has great prestige in arbitration and the CAS does it no favours.”

The Citizens have now taken steps to curtailing his barbs as they are now making moves to striking a legal suit through their lawyer.

“The matter has now been referred to our legal team to see if there is a course of action we can take to redress the balance.

“Mr Tebas’ views on the club are without any foundation. An independent body has ruled that UEFA’s decision to ban us from Europe was wrong.”
