Villarreal Appoint ex-Arsenal Coach 3-year Contract Manager

Unai Emery will lead the Yellow Submarines at the start of 2020/21 season after putting pen to paper on a three-year deal.

The former Sevilla, Paris Saint-German and Arsenal coach succeeds Javi Calleja who parted ways with the club after a successful second spell.

Calleja was let loose despite helping Villarreal finish fifth and gain qualification for the Europa League in his first and second stint and Emery will henceforth bare the big shoe of required achievement expected at the club.

It is not far fetched that he has been considered for the job following his laudable success in Spain and France. The 48-year old won three consecutive Uefa Europa League titles with Sevilla and all major trophies in French top-flight league.

The news came through an official announcement made by the club on its official website indicating that the Spanish gaffer will be in charge for the next three seasons.

The statement read: “Villarreal CF has reached an agreement with Unai Emery for the Basque manager to be Yellows head coach for the next three seasons.

“The manager will be presented on Monday at 12:30pm CEST in a press conference, which is exclusively open to media, which will take place in the Functions Room in the Preferencia Stand at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

“Unai Emery (Hondarribia, 3rd November 1971) is a well-respected coach with vast experience in football around the world, and has manager top-level clubs such as Paris Saint-German and Arsenal FC. Furthermore, he also knows LaLiga perfectly, after two successful spells at Sevilla FC and Valencia CF.

“In recent seasons, the Basque manager has been in charge of two top-level projects on the European stage. After his successful time at Sevilla, he moved to Paris Saint-Germain, with whom he added to his trophy cabinet, winning a Ligue 1, two Coupes de France, two Coupes de la Ligue and two French Super Cups.

“In his last role as manager, Emery took charge at Arsenal FC, with whom he was UEFA Europa League runner-up in the 2018/19 campaign.”

Emery has been out of management since leaving Arsenal in November 2019. He took over from Arsene Wenger in 2018 and led the club to it first Europa League final in 19 years.
