Human Trafficking: 500 Nigerians Abroad Make Distress Calls Daily For Rescue

Over 500 Nigerians living abroad make daily distress calls to authorities to be rescued across different countries around the world, Chairperson, House Committee on Diaspora Matters, Hon. Tolupe Akande-Sadipe, said Saturday.

Speaking at the ongoing 2020 National Diaspora Day organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), she said a major challenge for many Nigerians abroad is the evil of organ harvesting, with many people falling victim to the practice.

She said Nigerians living abroad have several challenges, which the Federal Government is working hard to address. She also said that the Federal Government is aware of glamour for Diaspora voting, which is being looked into.

Continuing, Akande-Sadipe said Nigeria is doing well in terms of Diaspora remittances, adding that Nigerians abroad needed to be praised for the success in that area.

Federal Government of Nigeria has set aside July 25th of each year in recognition of the contribution of Nigerians in the Diaspora to national development and to celebrate the Diaspora who have achieved feats in various fields of endeavor.

It is also aimed at reviewing areas requiring improvement, encourage interaction and dialogue on matters relating to the Diaspora.
