It added that till date, 46867 cases had been confirmed, 33346 discharged and 950 deaths recorded in 36 states and the FCT. The health agency said that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, had continued to coordinate the national response activities across the country.

Meanwhile, the agency said that in the absence of a safe vaccine to prevent COVID-19 , Nigerians must rely on non-pharmaceutical interventions such as face mask use. “Between 7-14 August, we’ll commemorate #WorldMaskWeek to reinforce the use of face masks.

“Studies have shown the  effectiveness of face masks in reducing the risk of COVID-19 infection. “A mask is an additional layer of protection needed to protect yourself and people around you in public places,” it said.
