The President, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Olajumoke Simplice, has said it is important for African countries to develop their tax systems and internal resources to attain a situation of Africa without aid.
She spoke during a press briefing on Tuesday on the upcoming West African Union of Tax Institutes 7th international conference with the theme ‘Design and implementing tax measures for the COVID-19 era and beyond’.
Simplice said, “At the end of this conference, we will be able to bring out issues which affect Africa in general because going forward, we want Africa without aid, and for us to be able to do that, we need to enjoy the mileage of the new normal in the economic realm.
“We need to act that we have to mobilise domestic revenue, how to take advantage of natural resources that we have in the continent.
“We need to understand that Africa is an emerging economy. We need to understand that Africa has the capacity to develop itself without aid and key into.
“We need to realise the economic integration of Africa and develop Africa for Africans.
“We need to look inward as Africans not only to develop our infrastructure but our minds, to reshape our mindsets and redefine our values.”
