CITN supports entrepreneurs in tackling tax challenges

Chairman Lagos and District Society, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and CITN Council Member, Yemi Sanni, has said the institute is looking at ways to support entrepreneurs in addressing their tax challenges.

Speaking during the CITN Annual Tax Week held in Lagos, he said the group wants to see how it can impact directly on the business of entrepreneurs in Computer Village, Lagos.

He said the group is working on bringing together  the Federal Inland Revenue Service, the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) and the Coalition of Association in Computer Village together to enable the relevant authorities listen to the problem they are facing and try to proffer solutions to such challenges.

He said the entrepreneurs with different tax problems will at the end of the programme, will be able to submit such problems to the coalition of the Association of Computer Village for action by the tax authorities. 

He said the FIRS, LIRS and CITN Lagos District Society and other tax authorities have professional tax practitioners who will help resolve this problem.

LIRS, Director, Informal Sector, Folashade Coker, said the stakeholders have come together to ease tax payment and support tax payers in resolving pending tax challenges they are facing.

In his good will message, President, Coalition of Associations in Computer Village, Timi David, appreciated the leadership of CITN, for partnering with the group on the annual tax week.

He said the Coalition of Associations in Computer Village is the coming together of over 15 different associations in Computer Village to form a union. 

The union, he said, covers over 90 per cent of the business owners in the Computer Village adding that every good citizen needs to be on the good side of law, including being tax compliant.  He said the programme was an opportunity for the members of the coalition to learn more on how to pay their taxes.  He said the CITN is not only a partner of the group, but has become consultant to the group on tax matters.
