Hope rises for Liverpool with Premier League restart

Liverpool have evoked images of the most thrilling title race in the history of Premier League in the wake of football restart confirmation in England.

The Reds were two games away from ending a 20-year domestic league drought when coronavirus pandemic occasioned the urgent suspension of the 2019/20 season to reduce the spread of the virus.

Based on improvement in safety and health risk management, Premier League Shareholders had consent to a new provisional restart date for the season of Wednesday 17 June when the remaining 92 matches will be played behind close door. However, only 32 games have been scheduled to hold between June 17 and July 2 with others (60 games) yet to be confirmed.

Liverpool will resume action with arch-rivals Everton in a Merseyside derby on Sunday 21 June and welcome Crystal Palace at Anfield in mid week before traveling to Ethiad Stadium for their third game on Thursday 2 July.

After the painful title slip to Manchester City in 2019 and the strange title miss to the same opponent in 2014. The 18 times England champions are keen on adding another domestic league trophy to their laurel. Reports from the club have shown that the players are training hard, twice as they have been in order to avoid similar mishap of previous years and achieve the club’s goal of conquering England once again.

“Liverpool are continuing their training preparations for the provisional restart of the Premier League season. The Reds were working hard at Melwood on the day confirmation was received that they are set to resume top-flight action on Sunday June 21 with an encounter against Everton.” A statement from the club website reads.

Liverpool are 25 points clear of second placed Manchester City on the EPL log after match day 29 with 27 wins, a draw and lost only a game. The best league stat in the history of the club.
