Madrid respond to Barcelona win in style to fuel title race heat

Barcelona had easily breezed past Mallorca on Saturday’s La Liga restart game. Only 24 hours later, Real Madrid delivered a counter reaction, defeating Eibar 3-1 to keep hope of title race alive.

Madrid started the first-half the better team with Tony Kroos firing Los Blancos ahead after four minutes. Sergio Ramos then slots home Harzard’s pass to extend the lead while Marcelo also added his name to the score sheet to leave Madrid with three unreplied goals at half time.

Zinedine Zidane’s men were faced with heavy pressure as Eibar came through a seemingly tricky second half performance, controlling the game and having a fair share of ball possession but were only able to get a consolation goal thanks to Pedro Bigas strike in the 60th minute.

Madrid latest victory leaves them on 59 points, two points behind league leaders Barcelona with 10 games left this season. This means 10 more victories for Madrid and a single slip for Barcelona will earn them their first La Liga title in three years.
