Still an unfinished business, the ambiguous situation of Timo Werner’s transfer to Chelsea

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner has been heavily linked away from Red Bull Arena in recent time.

The German international caught the eyes of numerous clubs in Europe’s topflight leagues after an impressive performance which saw the young star played 42 games, scored 31 goals and made 13 assists in all competition this season.

Werner’s 25 Bundesliga goals places him among the current top three scorers contending for Europe’s golden shoe. He is closely behind Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski and Lazio’s Ciro Immobile who have registered 30 and 27 league goals respectively.

Despite solid link with Liverpool, Chelsea were reported to have hijacked the deal after agreement to pay the £53m release clause on Werner’s contract was reached.

RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann has indicated that the young star transfer to Chelsea is still undone as no official confirmation has been issued yet.

“The transfer is not fixed yet, you have to emphasize that,” Nagelsman told Sport1.

However, the coach did not dismiss the possibility of losing few of his star players in the summer transfer window.

“I’m a coach with a realistic view and dreams. I’m aware that one or another highly talented player will leave us. It’s up to us, then, to find new players who can follow in such big footsteps.”

Leipzig are two wins away from sealing their third ever appearance in champions league and Nagelsman says he is very pleased with the club achievement.

“I’m satisfied with our performance, our aim was to reach the Champions League. It’s normal that we’d want to be champions sometimes. Every team in the Bundesliga should have this desire. But if we reach the Champions League, I’d be satisfied with this season in transition.”
