Anthony Martial nets first career hat-trick in Sheffield United rout

After a two-point slip from Spurs game and knowing Blades could catch up on the log if they stumble again, Manchester United last night beat Sheffield United 3-0 at Old Trafford to intensify their chance of competing in European championship next season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men continued to impress, displaying yet another intriguing performance in front of their fans as they have neither lost nor conceded a goal at home in the Premier League since they did against Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Anthony Martial led the bandwagon of Sheffield annihilation. The French forward was clinical on the night, scoring two first half goals and his third after the break to record his first ever career hat-trick for Manchester United.

United entered the encounter with a fine start when Marcus Rashford flicked a pass to Martial who slots in the opener after seven minutes from kickoff.

The French man again applied a finishing touch to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s pass to double the lead and completed his hat-trick with an excellent lob from another Rashford pass in the 74th minute before he retired for Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo.

The 3-0 comfortable victory places Manchester United two points behind Chelsea who are in 4th position on the log. They however have the chance of overtaking Blues in champions league spot race if Chelsea drop points in their coming fixtures, starting with Manchester City on Thursday.
