Xavi fined $2,700 for breaching COVID-19 guidelines

Qatar Football Association has fined Al-Sadd coach, Xavi Hernandez and several other players and staffs of Qatari topflight $2,700 each for not adhering to coronavirus rules.

The former Barcelona star announced that he tested positive for the novel coronavirus pandemic in July and disclosed he would be in quarantine to curtail the spread of the virus while going through recovery process.

Xavi broke protocols on Thursday and was found guilty of non-compliance with the Ministry of Public Health’s safety protocols including breaching a home quarantine pledge signed by him.

Executive Director of Competition and Football Development at the Qatar Stars League (QSL), Ahmed Khellil Abbassi told AFP that: “All players and coaches signed a pledge to commit to home quarantine as it is important to avoid the spread of the virus across the players since there is frequent contact between them,”

Neglecting the rules are Al-Sadd players: Hammam al-Amin and Abdul Karim Hassan and players and staff from several other Qatari teams who were also served with fines of $2,700 as warnings from the Qatar FA disciplinary committee.
