Nigeria Invitee Cyriel Dessers denies International commitment to Belgium

Super Eagles anticipant Cyriel Dessers has denied switching allegiance to Belgium national team should he be handed a call-up.

At 25, Dessers amazingly reached an illustrious career height following his impressive form with Netherland club, Heracles Almelo during 2019/20 campaign.

In the twilight of his brilliance, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) served the dual eligible forward an invitation to represent the country and was expected to feature for the first time in 2021 AFCON Qualifier clash against Sierra Leone in March before the novel coronavirus pandemic occasioned the match postponement indefinitely.

Yet, a strong argument that he is willing to be Belgium-bound has been doing the rounds and gaining momentum in the same vein but the talented forward has debunked such claims stating clearly that they are manifests from the dark pits of internet specifically to trigger stunts that enhance traffic for websites and blogs.

“They made a story from nothing. I didn’t even talk with Belgium and then they make a story.” Dessers told AOIFootball.com

“I said I hoped for a call (from Nigeria) in September, but that’s not even sure. That’s the coach who decides, It’s not in my hands.

“It’s just the click bait sites who take things out of context and make juicy titles.” He concluded.

He also revealed that the speculation has emanated after former Belgium goalkeeper, Luc Gilbert Cyrille Nilis suggested him to the Belgium national team coach Roberto Martinez during his spell at Heracles Almelo but he disregarded the counsel outrightly, saying he remains committed to feature for Nigeria.
