US billionaire buys AS Roma in $700m deal

A staggering deal worth £591 million ($700 million) has been agreed by American billionaire Dan Friedkin to purchase Italian club AS Roma.

In a play to forestall the club’s honour which is long overdue, Roma have changed ownership for better development. Friedkin has taken over the Italian club from James Pallotta who had 100 percent ownership of the club since 2014.

Friedkin owns the Gulf States Toyota, a franchise distributor that sells Toyotas in a number of southern US states. His net worth is estimated at $4.1 billion according to Forbes.

The American businessman will now put in place the required measures that will see Roma break free from their 19 years of Seria A title drought and 12 years of a silverware dry spell.

According to report, the €591 million ($700 million) transaction will be completed by the end of August but the two parties have reached agreement and put pen to paper on Wednesday before sprouting the announcement on Thursday.

Ex-owner, Pallotta said in a statement that: “Over the last month, Dan and Ryan Friedkin have demonstrated their total commitment to finalizing this deal and taking the club forward in a positive way. I am sure they will be great future owners for AS Roma,”

Confirming the deal, Friedkin said he anticipates total control in due time, saying: “All of us at The Friedkin Group are so happy to have taken the steps to become a part of this iconic city and club.

“We look forward to closing the purchase as soon as possible and immersing ourselves in the AS Roma family.”
